If your school does not use Google Workspace for Education, you’re done!
If your school does use Google Workspace for Education, Google's recent changes require administrators to explicitly configure third-party apps, including Shoelace Learning, in order for students designated as under 18 to maintain access. In order to allow your educators to access the Shoelace dashboard and your students to access Dreamscape and Drift, you must complete the following steps.
Steps for Google Workspace for Education IT Admins
If your school uses Google Workspace for Education, Google's recent changes require administrators to explicitly configure third-party apps, including Shoelace Learning, in order for students designated as under 18 to maintain access.
1. Log in to Your Google Admin Console: Go to admin.google.com and access your administrator account.
- Navigate to App Access Control: Locate the "App access control" card within the console. Refer to Google's Help Center article if needed.
- Review Apps: Click "Review apps" to bring up a list of third-party apps used within your organization.
- Find and Configure Shoelace Apps:
- Locate all apps with the following in their names - there will be multiple.
- “Shoelace Learning”,
- “Dreamscape”,
- “Dreamseeker Drift”.
- For each app, click "Configure access."
- Follow the guided instructions to grant the necessary permissions for students designated as under 18.
- Please note that Shoelace Learning apps only require basic profile information for authentication purposes.
- Locate all apps with the following in their names - there will be multiple.
Addressing Clever-Specific Barriers: If your school district utilizes Clever to authorize Google SSO for apps including Shoelace Learning, there's an additional step to ensure uninterrupted access:
Verify Clever Configuration: Work alongside your school or district's Clever administrator to confirm that they have also reviewed and authorized Clever's permissions for student accounts designated as under 18. Google's changes apply to Clever as well since it acts as a third-party app. Failure to do so might prevent students from accessing Shoelace Learning through Clever.
Clever has more information here in this article on how to get setup.
